Listening to... →
Top five artists I’ve been listening to, as scrobbled by Last.Fm for the week ending 2009-1-25.  This mostly records my listening via iTunes, though the iPod scrobbling occasionally works, so it should be a fairly accurate representation.  Having said that, I haven’t actually listened to a ‘Moth’ podcast all the way through– that reflects the amount of time I’ve...

A Review of Two Things: One For the Mac and One... →
Shawn Blanc reviews my favourite task management app.  I’ve used iGTD.  I was an original Kinkless GTD ninja.  There are a few other systems I’ve tried to get into.  But Things, by far, has made the most sense. Having said that, I no longer use the iPhone app.  That particular space has been filled by Appigo’s Todo, which syncs beautifully via iCal…

Your trees are no longer welcome.
Wrestled with the christmas tree on Thursday.  The tree won.  I’m still finding pine needles in my ‘fro.  And the worst thing?  It was a baby.  It didn’t reach far above my waist, and that was when standing on the speaker box I rescued from the back of my car.  Note to christmas: your trees are no longer welcome around here.  Next year, I’m sticking with fairy lights.

A fitting end to the week...
“Time is the most perishable good in the world, and it is not replenishable. You can’t earn an extra hour to use on a busy day. Nonetheless, we usually have a vague feeling that there is plenty of time — somewhere in the future — so we waste it now and carelessly steal time from our families, friends or ourselves when we come up short at the end of a workday and need to stay an extra...

THE RETURN OF DIMLITE  →
I’ve been listening to a lot of Dorian Concept recently.  It just occurred to me that Dorian Concept has come to fill the space once filled for me by another producer whose work was a constant soundtrack for much of my creative output: Dimlite.  A nudge from a recent Offtrack radio podcast had me back on Dim’s site, and lo, Spring 2009 looks set to be a beautiful time of the year....

The Tolerance for Courageous Sucking
“Nobody likes feeling like a noob, especially when you’re getting constant pressure on all sides to never stick out in an unflattering way. And, in this godforsaken just-add-Wikipedia era of make-believe insight and instant expertise, it’s natural to start believing you must never suck at anything or admit to knowing less than everything — even when you’re just starting out. Clarinets should...

“There’s an old saying that everyone has heard hundreds of times: practice makes perfect. But what they forget to add is that if you’re not practicing the right things, you don’t get any better. If all you practice on the guitar or piano are the same scales you could already pull off flawlessly a year ago, you’re not learning anything new. You’re not getting any better at playing. Or, if...

Palm Pre presentation. →
It’s long, and it takes a minute before they get to the goods (“mobile is in our DNA” etc) but I have to say, it’s looking good.  When I first heard about the Palm Pre I was dubious, but the presentation here is really compelling.  The concept of aggregating all of your information across different sources through the WebOS makes so much sense.  And it looks like a...

Fifty People One Question :: Welcome →
“Fifty People, One Question is a simple project with surprising results. We go to a place, ask fifty people the same question and film their responses. The project started in New Orleans, LA and received such a warm response that we decided to do it again in New York City. Now we’re traveling to more cities (sister cities to be exact) and asking new questions. Always just trying to...

“The Addictionary is a site for word lovers and those who like to see our beloved English language grow in serious or humorous ways. We built the Addictionary to empower word-play and to help lovers of word-play showcase and market their cleverness and creativity to the world.”  Plus, it looks great.

Stranger Faces →
“I have always been frustrated by the fact that most of us end up only getting to know the people we grew up with, went to school with, friends of friends, or those we work with. Our best friends and lovers tend to originate from this small group of people. Stranger Faces is my way of taking time to literally get to know a complete stranger, and reflect on this concept.” (UPDATE:...

“There is a commitment to excellence in Schulz’s work, both artistically and in the pursuit of deeper truths. When he first started attempting syndication in the early 1950s, people tried to get him to steer his creations in more “popular” directions; his own mother suggested that he needed to draw sexier girls. But Sparky stuck to his guns, and when Peanuts (nee...
